Santa Barbara Style - Rancho Bernardo
National Kitchen and Bath Association's Best Large Kitchen Award - 2016
With two growing children and two large dogs, these clients definitely needed more space. The home’s interior was feeling tired and outdated. They wanted a space that reflected their love of the “Santa Barbara” style; a combination of Old California and Southern Spain, with a Moorish influence.
The kitchen was extended to the side of the house to create a “great room” that lives up to its name. This space includes a huge island, a breakfast area, a huge walk-in pantry, a large TV watching area and a bar.
The hand-scraped wide plank floors, stained ceiling beams and lightly distressed cabinetry give the space an elegant, yet rustic, feel.
The large chandeliers, oil rubbed bronze hardware and fixtures echo the ironwork of the haciendas of Old California. The geometric patterns and hand-painted pattern of the backsplash tile are reminiscent of the Moorish influence of Southern Spain.
Details such as wood framed, mullioned windows and newly constructed arches help to reinforce the style throughout the home.
